Why it’s time to reimagine PVCu Doors

A full house of PVCu windows and a composite front door has become the standard in many retrofit projects. Meanwhile, PVCu panel doors have generally been reserved for rear or side entrance doors, hidden from view of the main front property elevation, where design details that create impressive kerb appeal have become essential for discerning homeowners.

Whilst engineered PVCu doors are not unheard of in our sector, there have been a number of restraints that have prevented them from making their mark in the wider market.

Due to limitations in standard door panel manufacturing, there was a very restricted colour range available. Even if you could get the colour you wanted, the raised moulding details in the panels were ‘one size fits all’, so in larger or smaller doors, the design was never perfectly proportioned. And decorative glass options were not up to the standards of their composite door counterparts.

The door market was ready for something new, and whilst we were working with a number of companies on new decorative glass ranges to suit their own engineered door collections, we realised that there was a big piece of the jigsaw missing.

There was clear demand for more decorative door panels with distinctive design details and for greater colour ranges that were matched to existing PVCu system profiles, but available in smaller quantities. And, there was a lack of marketing support to help installers and their homeowner customers visualise the doors and the options that were available.

With our range of Engineered Door Components, we have reimagined PVCu doors.

A complete suite of decorative door elements, the collection includes flat, tongue and grooved, and raised and fielded door panels (in more than 70 standard and 100 special order colour foil finishes) to suit most PVCu systems.

Crucially, the panels have been designed to create a door with flawless balance in terms of design, regardless of size. The raised moulded areas are equally distanced from the sides of the frame, for perfectly proportioned and balanced aesthetics.

When paired with our decorative bolection mouldings and stunning glass options, fabricators have all of the components they need to deliver the traditional aesthetics of timber doors, with the thermal performance, security and low maintenance benefits of PVCu. All while using existing manufacturing processes and without any additional machinery or investment.

It’s a great new opportunity for installers too – more beautiful door design options in a huge colour range that’s perfectly matched to existing PVCu profiles, available to upsell to homeowners, with all of the familiarity of fitting a PVCu door.
